Sometimes I will take the day old wax and re-melt it in the kitchen as a "pocket-zone" aroma. In my Bathroom , is another good pocket zone! We will re-melt wax from the living room here, or if I'm taking a bath with one of our bath goodies, I will often pop in a totally new cube of a super relaxing aroma such as StressLess or Depression Relief.

It's always new to my nose when I enter the bedroom so I never go nose blind to them, super relaxing and my nose always recognizes these aromas as "ope, it's time to rest". Now if you don't know the difference here goes: Paraffin wax is made from the waste products left over from crude oil when producing petroleum.

How do wax melts work? Why do people love wax melts so much? Now this is actually several much bigger questions: Why do people like light or warmth? Finally, the oil-to-wax ratio will affect how long your various wax melts burn once you get them in the warmer. These days, most companies use one ounce of fragrance oil for every pound of wax used.

Most often, fragrance oil only binds itself to a certain amount of wax. Naturally, if you find a company that has a higher concentration of fragrance oil, your wax melts will burn longer and last longer on the shelf. A lot of different things can affect how long the scent in your wax melts will last and therefore how often you should change the melts.

You can change out your wax melts in one of two ways. First, if the wax has hardened in the warmer, simply turn the warmer on for roughly 10 to 15 minutes. When it does, just pull on the ribbon and remove the piece of hardened wax. You can also use cotton balls to soak up the melted wax.

When the wax is completely melted, add several cotton balls to the warmer. For best results, add one cotton ball for every cube of wax melt that is in the warmer. This is not to be confused with scent throw — the strength of the fragrance emitted from your wax melt. One of the main factors that contribute to a wax melt burn time is how much fragrance oil is added.

The percentage of oil used is different for every manufacturer. Surprisingly, adding more oil does not necessarily mean a longer burn time. This is because adding too much oil can affect the structure, texture and bond between the wax and the oil and consequently reduce the scent throw and the burn time. There are various blends of wax available to manufactures and the type of wax used can affect the burn time and scent throw.

The majority of wax melt sellers use soy wax because of the length of burn time and its ability to work well with fragrance oils. However, studies show that beeswax holds the longest burn time but is considerably more expensive than other types of wax. Click here to view our range of wax melts.
