When was the movie singles released
As told to Alexis Sottile. I liked the idea of working with actors I loved and having it be an ensemble, and just paying tribute to a city and a feeling. So that was the beginning of Singles. Plus, my idea at the time was to keep doing stories that aged up as I aged up. Singles was Stage Two. Doing an ensemble piece like that starts to feel a little more like how life can feel.
This is your new crew of friends. And I loved the idea of this world happening in Seattle. So to see Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament — tight friends working together at a coffee shop during the day, playing music and going to shows at night — just felt like such a committed, naturally generous lifestyle. In LA, there was none of that. Ament worked in the art department. Eddie we were able to pay to give Matt Dillon guitar lessons. And we were all together doing this thing where we had a vague idea that we were making Seattle into this worldwide event in the film, when in fact it was a small community that was not a worldwide event at the time.
But then in more deep irony it became a worldwide event. Bridget Fonda Janet Livermore was the only cast member I had had in mind while writing. I had met her; she was represented by a friend of mine. Bridget just had such natural charisma, and she had experience built into her family line, so she was never jaded.
She just seemed wise at a young age and felt to me like somebody you would meet in Seattle. Deegan's class". Johnny Depp turned down the role of Steve because he was uncomfortable saying "I love you" onscreen.

Warner Bros. Crowe called his lawyer and tried to stop this, but NBC went ahead with the idea anyway, incorporating many of the elements of that proposed series into "Friends". Crowe told Rolling Stone in that his mother still says, "You really screwed up on Friends!
All you had to do was say yes! You would be living in a castle right now! I'm happy I made the choices I made. But in my mind at least, you can partially draw a line from the genesis of Friends to our little Seattle film. Contrary to popular belief, the film was already well underway when the celebrated "Seattle sound" became popular, rather than being designed as a vehicle to capitalize on its popularity.
In fact, this film was supposed to begin production in , right after The Wild Life but the project was delayed. Cliff is also wearing a shirt with Edie Sedgwick 's face on it when he is delivering flowers. Tom Skerritt , who plays the mayor of Seattle, is a longtime resident of the city.
Campbell Scott 's character is seen wearing a SubPop t-shirt, a well-known independent record company from Seattle which released many albums which became known as the "Seattle Sound", most notably Nirvana , Soundgarden , and Mudhoney.
Cornell turned down the role because of the filming schedule, to focus solely on his band Soundgarden. Crowe still gave him wordless cameo and asked Soundgarden perform their song "Birth Ritual" in one of the scenes.
The Singles soundtrack was released three months before the film itself. Cameron Crowe told Rolling Stone in that that was the purpose. Cameron filmed more than scenes the final movie consists of about , researched and wrote even more. Cameron talked about some of the cameos in a September 13, snippet from Newsday : Eric Stoltz is unrecognizable as a street mime.
